Portable x-ray machine

18 Feb, 2023

Burps received a large charitable donation from the distribution of an estate last year, and we gave half of it to the Scannappeal as a contribution to their appeal for this X-ray machine. The remainder of the cost of the machine was raised by Scannappeal’s fundraising efforts.

Scannappeal message:

What a wonderful way to start the New Year with a visit to the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) at Stoke Mandeville Hospital to see the newly funded equipment from Scannappeal.
The Fuji FDR Nano Digital Mobile X-Ray machine is already being used to x-ray vulnerable babies in their incubator. The machine allows for the team to xray the babies in their incubator without being moved. The lightweight device provides superb, high resolution digital images, using only one-third of the radiation dose to babies and staff.
Clive Christian, Cross-Site Modality Lead Radiographer arranged for Scannappeal, along with other members of the radiography team, staff from NICU and a representative from Fuji – who supplied the equipment – to see the equipment in situ. We were also joined by Nikki, a committee member from BURPS Neonatal Department at Stoke Mandeville Hospital , a parent support charity made up of a group of parents and relatives that have had an ill or premature baby on the unit. Nikki brought her gorgeous son, Spencer, who was five weeks premature and spent several weeks in the unit. The machine is already making a big difference to how babies can be monitored in the unit and the team were thrilled about the positive impact it will have. Nikki was very touched that the new equipment will be named after her son, Spencer!
