Burps have recently funded a portable vapotherm unit. The Neonatal team have been implementing some improvement projects for the preterm babies, and part of this involves what is known as ‘birthday cuddles’. To fully implement this they needed to have a portable vapotherm system that would allow babies to receive respiratory support whilst having a cuddle with their mother and/or father straight after birth for more than a very brief time which is all that could be offered previously, before being transferred to the Neonatal Unit.
Burps have also funded a device that attaches to a vapotherm machine which automatically regulates the oxygen that a baby receives whilst on respiratory support and is regulated by the baby’s blood oxygen saturation levels thereby avoids the staff having to manually adjust the oxygen levels that a baby requires.
The portable vapotherm has already been used to enable a 10 minutes ‘birthday cuddle’ for a 29 weeker. So thank you to all the donations that have made this possible!
